Community Standards
Version 2026-08-19
Sonic Blue is a working portal for the DC MD VA music community — fans, artists, venues, booking agents, and service providers. These standards apply everywhere on the portal: profiles, listings, the community wall, groups, messages, reviews, and booking conversations. They sit alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
1. Treat people like you'd want to be treated
- No harassment, bullying, stalking, or targeted pile-ons.
- No hate speech or attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
- No threats of violence, glorification of violence, or encouraging self-harm.
- Disagree with the work, not the person. Criticism of a show, release, or venue is fine; personal abuse is not.
2. Be who you say you are
- No impersonating another artist, venue, agent, staff member, or organization.
- Only claim a listing you actually own or are authorized to represent.
- No fake reviews, fake bookings, sock-puppet accounts, or vote/point manipulation.
- Booking agents, promoters, and service providers must represent their role and fees honestly.
3. Keep it safe and legal
- Nothing sexual involving minors — ever. We report this to the authorities.
- No sexually explicit media, gore, or shock content.
- No sale of drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods, or anything else illegal.
- Under-18 members may use the community and fan features, but may not sell tickets or receive payouts.
4. Post real, useful information
- Events must be real, and you must have the right to list them.
- Keep dates, ticket links, prices, and contact details current.
- No spam, mass unsolicited DMs, engagement bait, or repetitive self-promo in unrelated threads.
- No scraping, bulk extraction, or resale of directory data.
5. Respect other people's work and privacy
- Only upload music, photos, posters, and video you own or have permission to use.
- Don't post someone else's private contact info, address, or documents.
- Industry notes, internal booking notes, and deal terms are confidential — don't republish them.
- Private messages stay private; don't screenshot and broadcast them to shame someone.
6. Honest business dealings
- Honor the offers, holds, guarantees, and settlements you agree to.
- Reviews must come from a real interaction — no retaliation reviews, no paid reviews.
- Disclose fees up front. Surprise deductions at settlement are a violation.
- Don't move a transaction off-portal to dodge platform fees after using the portal to find the other party.
7. Reporting and enforcement
Every post, listing, and profile has a report option in its menu. Reports go to our moderators, who review each one. Depending on severity and history, we may:
- Remove or hide the content;
- Issue a warning or temporarily limit posting, messaging, or selling;
- Unclaim or unpublish a listing;
- Suspend or remove the account and cancel pending payouts where fraud is involved;
- Refer the matter to law enforcement.
If you think we got it wrong, reply to the moderation notice or reach us through the contact page and a different reviewer will look at it.
8. Directory listings we started for you
Many directory listings were created by DMV Music Alliance from public information so the community had a starting point. We do not maintain them. It is up to the artist, venue, or business to claim their listing, correct it, and keep it up to date. See the listing accuracy section of the Terms for the full details.
9. Changes
We update these standards as the community grows. Material changes are announced in the portal. Questions or suggestions? Email support@dmvmusic.org.
